XK Hatch Door Light wiring

I am looking to put a "real" light on the hatch door of my XK. The stock one is of almost no use and I can't find a bright bulb to put in its place. I am looking for a new bright LED light that I can Place in the center of the hatch and have a separate on/off switch for it. So as to not void any my lifetime warranty, I installed a 7 amp hour rechargeable battery in the cargo bay at the rear. Ran a wire up to the cup holder on the drivers side to a small 12v solar panel to keep it charged. I then ran a wire up to the top so that I can pass them through the rubber grommet and into the hatch door. My problem is that I am unable to get the wires through the rubber grommet and into the hatch. I have seen that others have done this mod, but I can not seem to find out how to make the transition from inside the car to the hatch. Any links, videos or explanations are welcome, please help. I have pictures of the install but do not have 25 posts yet so I can't post them. I will post a "how to" when I get the privilege.
