I finished the electrical wiring for my CKMA12 ARB compressor on my 1998 Jeep ZJ 5.9r and I want to run a scenario by you and see what you think.
When I first wired my compressor I noticed that when the light selector is moved to any on position I get a temporary surge at the compressor.
I assumed Id wired my dash illumination B/W wire incorrectly.
My CKMA12 compressor is wired for an Isolation Switch and Switch #1 (front axle only) set-up I do not have the front axle locker connected, just the solenoid at the compressor wired. I did not remove diodes from the B/W or R/Y and everything else comes isolated by the provided wiring harness that its almost idiot proof.
Whenever I turn-on my light selector, I get a quick start out of the compressor like when you switch your sink disposal on in the kitchen then realize what youve done and quickly turn it off.
I thought I had isolated the wrong dash illumination wire off the selector. So today I moved the BLU-WHITE wire off the selector to the gear bezel as ARB techs recommended. I also moved the R/Y ignition wire off the cigar lighter to an accessory wire I know is ignition driven and carrying 12V. Yet, the temporary surge of the compressor with the move of the light selector did not stop.
Operation is normal and continuous with the lights off and ignition turned. The isolation switch does have lighting which dims with the dash illum dimmer. The second switch either does not have a light or faint but I didnt know what to expect out of the #1 Switch if its not driving the axle locker for now.
After pondering most of the day, Im wondering if it is just the load shift of turning on the Jeep lights sends a surge through the electrical system as in most cars, when the lights are turned on, everything flickers/dims with the initial load.
Im stumped. I just dont want to ruin the compressor by these short spurts with the lights. Should I not be worried? Should I be looking for a faulty capacitor or something in the light or electrical circuit?
Thanks in advance for giving it some thought
