just picked this up for my sons 1st car. hes had it less than a month and it got roughly 102k miles on the clock. I get a call that he is stranded at a friends house with steam coming from under the hood. I manage to get it home (3 mile drive) with the temp gauge not peaking over 3/4. I get it in the garage with a new thermosat and the upper/lower radiator hoses and also notice a hairline crack in the radiator. so I have replaced the radiator as well.
after 20-30 minutes at idle the gauge is at 1/2 and will start to climb if I hold it at 2000 rpm and will climb really fast if I drive 2 miles. I suspected the water pump but the heater gets very warm and both radiator hoses are hot to the touch. I also "think" the system has been bled of any air given I don't see any of the visual signs.
so now I am at a loss. I doubt the water pump is the culprit. I did notice today that the a/c clutch would cycle on/off about once every 5 seconds and I get no cold air from it. could the compressor be dragging down the motor and causing the heat issue? I am open to any suggestions
