So it's that time of year when the registration is do. Paid that but I also need to do a smog inspection. Problems is a few months back the CEL came on and upon further inspection, the front two cats are bad.
Now the next problem I have is this, My Jeep is a salvage and doesn't have an emissions label on it from getting it back on the road. The smog shop has no issues with it since they just punch in the VIN and the required smog equipment shows up on a screen for them to verify.
I'm being told by the local muffler shops that they need to see the emissions label in order to verify the engine family and get the right cat's? I know in '09 CA required any bad cats to be replaced with a new CA legal cat, but how do I find out the engine family?
I can change these myself but thought if it was cheap enough, I'd just have a local shop do it.
The hard part is this is the last time all probably have to smog this thing in this state. Any other state (except New York) and I could just buy a whole new setup and swap right in without having to worry about the engine family.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Anyone (Orange County local) have a system laying around they'd let me borrow for a couple days to get past smog.
