My WJ has 220K on it and the trans is starting to crap out. It slips (surges) under acceleration in 2nd, sometimes winds out 1st to 4k, skips 2nd and shifts to 3rd, and will sometimes start in 2nd gear when taking off from a light. It will also need coaxing to kick down on moderate grades.
None of this is surprising considering the mileage on the truck. Should I bother changing the fluid/filter and adjusting the bands (I have no idea when or if this has ever been done)? By doing that will I just be accelerating the inevitable grenading of the trans?
