I have a 91 wrangler 4 litre. Previous owner put a new crate motor in it 30,000 miles ago. The jeep was only summer driven for about 5 years and sat idle for 9 months of the year for the past 5 years. It developed a loud ticking noise at startup and at idle. I seafoamed it and it is quieter. No ticking now at startup but after 5 to 7 seconds it starts to tick. The ticking SEEMS to go away at about 1500 rpm but comes back at idle speed. My stethoscope tells me it is not an exhaust manifold crack or an injector. The noise seems to be coming from the passenger side rear valve cover, not the block or the distributor. I run 5w30 and a napa gold filter. Anyone here have a similar problem? Was it a lifter or a push rod a rocker? Any ideas?
