Lower Control Arm Cam Bolt Failure

mercredi 14 janvier 2015

Hey Guys,

On my way home from work today I noticed an all too familiar sway when braking, long story short the cam bolt in the front lower control arm was missing. One of two things happened, the bolt snapped, or Sears [and I think this is the likely scenario] didn't tighten the nut, it backed off and the bolt worked it's way out. Either way I was able to get a grade 5 7/16" inch bolt in to get her home.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced cam bolt failure? These were approx 6 months old, no off roading just your basic daily driver. Also, does anyone know the actual diameter of the proper bolt? I would like to get a bigger bolt in there in case I need to drive it to work before the new cam bolts arrive. Seems like 1/2" would be too big, maybe metric? I wanted to put grade 8 in there but it doesn't seem like I will be getting off a hardware store shelf, may need to just over night the cam bolts.
