Small lift opinion--if you're about to get on

samedi 10 janvier 2015

So I haven't read anything like what I'm about to write. It may be out there but I don't know for sure. Here it goes.

After putting a small (<3 inch) lift on my jeep this is what I've found. The jeeps have a very plush ride when stock and after replacing my springs and shocks it handled nowhere near as good as it did at stock height.

There is a lot of engineering that goes into these things as well as geometry used to get angles write so that our jeeps handle on and off road extremely well. Even by changing the stock height by two inches we change all kinds of angles. At first I just did the springs and shocks. It rode horrible compared to stock.

So I started with the obvious stuff; lower control arms up front to fix my wheel placement in the wheel well up front as well as an adjustable track bar to center the axle left to right. This helped a bit but it was still sloppy.

Next I got the kor track bar bushing and nee extended sway bar links front and back to put the correct amount of tension on the sway bars and these three areas tightened me up substantially but it still wasn't great.

I just did my rear lower control arms and I will have the upper bushings in next week and the rear lca's made a HUGE difference!! I suspect that the upper bushings will result in a substantially better ride and I will also be doing the front uppers as well next week now that I see the improvement.

I have 135k miles on my heep and this is what I feel it comes down to: if you keep your vehicles nice, as I do then do yourself a favor and do the job right. Upgrade ALL necessary parts for a lift to compensate for angles that have changed. Also, replace the worn out parts of your suspension. I also still have to do the ball joints and they're on the list.

I believe the the engineers gave us an excellent on and off-road vehicle and if you really want to keep the parts working together properly And effectively the try as best you can to keep the geometry as close to stock as possible.

I know I'll catch a lot of flack from you guys saying it's not necessary but I'll bet meh truck handles and drives significantly better than those who did it cheap and that's how I like it. This is just my opinion.
