Starting to get parts together for a SBC swap.

vendredi 20 mars 2015

I have a 88 YJ with 2.5L no power steering been reading novaks website and this website a lot great info here but I would like to have a thread just for my questions( I know how to use search function and am gonna keep reading as much as I can) Novak is great but they also sell parts and recommend a lot of stuff I may or may not need. I'm gonna stick with a GEN 1 SBC. I want three things reliable simple and affordable. I'd like thoughts on this from those of you who have done it, I'd like to get my ducks in a row as much as possible and not have to be waiting on parts all the time.

I'm wanting to leave my axels stock for now until funds build back up

What I know I'll need

SBC GEN 1

AX15 Transmission with transfer case with correct spline count. I'll have to get a speedo converter sinc eI have a maual cable unless I can find a transfer case with correct hook up. I'd like to get the AX-15 with external slave

Motor mounts: advanced, novak, or Transadapt?

trans to engine adapter: Novak

radiator: hopefully pull from salvage yard and fabricate mount.

Hugger headers and exhaust.

Power steering box off of v8 Durango I heard will mount up since I will now have power steering. I'll have some lines made for it.

New tach and mechanical gages cause the ones in it suck anyways.

What I'm not sure of.

Will I need to adjust length of drive shafts or get slip yolk kit?

I'd love to have fuel injection but am worried about the ECU portion. I don't mind putting in the o2 sensors and all that but will I have to have a new wire harness.

The ECU is it just plug and play (surley not) or will I have to have it programed. Could I use my old harness and just wire in everything or will I be better off just buying one from painless.

Clutch, fly wheel, and pilot bearing I figure the stock one from the ax15 should mount up and work sense I am buy the adapter kit will I needa get one for a SBC?

Again I know there is a search button but I really wanna have everything ready for this before I start ripping and tearing.
