Trying to get to the root of my courtesy light problems, I pulled the security module. Now my lights go on and off as they should, but with no dimming - they just switch off hard when all the doors are closed. But at least they switch off!
While I had the module out, I checked the resistance on the pins for the CCD bus, which confirmed it had gone open circuit (should be from 100-140 ohms). So two problems with one module. New one on the way from eBay.
But when I reconnected the module and hooked up the battery, I got an immediate loud electric buzzing noise that sounds like it's coming from somewhere behind the glovebox area of the dash. Further experimentation confirmed that it's triggered by the module.
So is that an actual security alarm? It has to be, right? There's nothing else behind the dash that could make that noise.
I just hope that it's another symptom of the faulty module rather than a whole new problem. I had the security module out a few years ago, and reconnected it with no issues. It also means I can't drive the Jeep until the replacement arrives

Is there an alarm buzzer behind the glovebox?
