So, I got my front axle allllll done. Regeared it myself, did the vacuum disconnect delete with a home-made block-off plate, a Ford seal and a Cherokee shaft. I was getting an odd vibration above 55MPH.
I had the front driveshaft balanced today, and it was slightly out of balance. Had no vibration when the driveshaft was out of the Jeep. Put it back on after rebalancing, and lo and behold, it's still vibrating. It almost feels worse.
It's a really odd vibration, too. It's not constant. It kind of pulses. It'll go vvvvvvvvvvVVVVVVVVvvvvvvvvvVVVVVVVVvvvvvv ... It goes in and out, and I can feel it in the Jeep. I can see it in the rear-view mirror, and it turns headlights into circles, then for a second I can see clearly, then it goes all circle-y again.
Any ideas? I have two different size u-joints on the front axle since the Cherokee came with the bigger u-joint and I have the stock driver's side smaller YJ joint. I didn't replace the Cherokee joint and it's a little worn, but I can't imagine it causing a vibration like this, because my old u-joints were totally shot and I didn't have a vibration issue before.
Tomorrow I am going to try getting rid of my T-case drop to see if it might be an angle-related issue. The driveline guy says that isn't likely, because angle issues usually show up at low speeds instead of high speeds. Give me an idea.
