Evaporator Core and Air Compressor

So apparently Chrysler made vehicles are notorious for leaky Evap core's? After two years of no AC in the Florida heat and humidity I finally decided to have my AC fixed. I found a recommended auto AC shop and have been quoted a little under $1500 (parts and labor) to have a new Evap and air compressor installed. Has anyone else had an issue with a leaky Evap core? I was told once the evap core leaks then the air compressor is emptied and is refilled multiple times that it forces out the oil in the compresser. My compresser does make an awful worn-bearing sound, so I know the compresser must be going. I just hope this fixes my problem. Anyone else had similar issues?
