I won't go into the details about testing for and determining that the crank position sensor was bad since there are lots of great threads out there on it.
Our problem started with a typical crank no start situation that happened overnight. Fuel pressure was good at the rail, no CEL or stored codes etc.
The replacement on the 2000 is a little different that most of the threads and info I found.
The first difference is that the connector plug is not on the top of the engine on the intake manifold as it seems most are. It's on a bracket down by the shift linkage that you can only access from the bottom of the vehicle.
The second difference is that without removing the shift linkage bracket and possibly dropping the trans down I'm not sure that one person could do this job! It took two of us. One underneath with the 14" of extensions and an elbow and the other one up top with two fingers on the socket to get it on the bottom bolt. It would probably help if you have small hands and arms which I don't!
I did find a couple of videos that seemed similar to this configuration, but it sure looked easier and like they had more access than I did!
After quite some frustration we got the new one in and it fired right up. Running just fine again. :2thumbsup:
Hope this helps someone else in the future.
