Hey there,
So yesterday, one of the JK's (2 door non-rubicon) in my crew had a TC issue. I pulled him with my LJ to get him out and home. Luckily we were in a place where he could coast most of the way (down a canyon etc). Still, I did pull him (fairly slowly...under 30 mph for about 10-15 miles.) During these uphill pulling sessions, I also tried to keep it around 3000 rpm max with maybe slightly above 4000 rpm at the max and when the tranny would downshift. When it did this, I let off and just went slower in the higher gear again, with rpm's around 3000 or under for most of the pulling...although it did keep trying to shift on and off a few times and I didn't like that. It was right at my shift point. We both have fairly built rigs with 35's and such too, mine geared to 4.88's etc.
Anyway, my LJ is rated for 3500 lbs towing but his JK was probably pushing 4000 plus from what I'm seeing. It made my derale cooler come on but not for an excessive amount of time, that didn't seem out of the ordinary for a warm day. Also, my hitch is rated at Class III although I have it reinforced a bit. That seemed to go smoothly although he also did tug me back a little on a few short downhill sections. Again, total mileage I was "working" towing him uphill might have been 15 miles max and it was with a strap so no tongue weight.
Anyway, just thinking it over today. Was that too much for my rig and hitch? (I kind of baby it if you can't tell by this thread...)
