I know there is a significant number of posts on here about overheating conditions and appreciate all the information. However, I cannot seem to rectify my situation after doing a lot of the actions recommended on these forums. Background is I had a radiator with a hole in it. Replaced the radiator, water pump and thermostat (to 60 degrees - I live in Houston and it is HOT! right now and the A/C is running all the time). Solved the overheating problem but the Jeep still runs hot. If I'm stuck in traffic it will get up to the 235/240 degree range. Again, not technically in the red but very close. If traffic loosens up and I can cruise along at 65 MPH it will slowly drop back down to 210 degrees.
An additional "nuance" is that it idles very low - or seems to me like it does. There are times when coming up to a stop light it will almost stall on me. Typically at a stop light it will idle around 333 RPMs. I was thinking this was contributing to my running hot condition when sitting in traffic. After consulting the forum again I replaced the IAC this weekend. It does seem to idle at a higher RPM now but it's still only around 500 RMP when sitting at a stoplight. If I shift it into Neutral the RPMs increase only slightly. I have read on there that these vehicles should idle at around 700 RPM. Mine does not.
Also, I have replaced the TPS fairly recently (a year ago maybe). I also bought a new fan clutch over the weekend thinking that maybe it was not engaging completely at idle but I have not put that on yet. Seems like I am piece mealing the thing and was hoping to get some guidance before I go any further.
The vehicle has the I6 engine with 169K miles. Again, I live in Houston so it is HOT! right now - 100 degrees with a heat index of 105'ish. I ran it for a bit over the weekend with the A/C off and it ran right around 210 degrees. However, I was not sitting in traffic. And, you cannot do this as a normal course. You - or at least I - would have to change my clothes every time I stopped the car and got out. On the flip side, I could stand to sweat off a few pounds though
Anyway, any thoughts/suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I really like the vehicle but my wife is about ready to drive it off a cliff. Again, it is not technically "overheating' since replacing the radiator/H2O pump/thermostat but it does get hot enough frequently that you get that antifreeze odor like you get when it does overheat.
Thanks.
