My wife and I are considering buying a new Jeep (this will be our first); probably a Sport base, but we are still debating the details. However, when we mentioned this to our mechanic, he was very negative about the reliability of the VVT V6 engine and said that, in general, the whole vehicle was pretty "twitchy" (and not in a good way, apparently). Our mechanic is a big car guy and I would generally respect his views, but he was so negative about the newer Jeeps that I thought it might be good to get a second (and third) opinion.
