Hey There,
I have been searching around for quite some time and have come up with a few different things so I figured I would ask specific to what is going on in my case.
This is actually my mother's car. 2014 Jeep Compass. Not sure of the engine, but its the baseline model. ETC came on with the check engine light. Car would stutter and really struggle to accelerate. Seeing as it is under warranty, I call up Chrysler and have it towed to a nearby dealership. I failed to pull the codes myself since I figured I'd just get it to the dealer and whip my hands clean since its not my car and it is under warranty.
Speak to the dealer today. They tell me it seems to be due to carbon build up in the throttle body. Guy keeps on talking and he goes, "since this is close to 30,000 miles, you should get the 30,000 mile maintenance done and it will fix it. Since its the smaller SUV, it won't be as much, its about $800." I stop him right there. I keep reiterating that there are warning lights on and the car is not drive-able and it is under warranty and it needs to be fixed. All he keeps telling me is that the regular maintenance will fix and regular maintenance is not covered by the warranty.
So I call Chrysler, Chrysler calls the dealer, and they tell me that have to trust the dealer's diagnosis.
So I look at the manual. I see that 30,000 maintenance includes and air filter and spark plugs. This is when I start to get upset. I've changed air filters and spark plugs before and it's not $800 dollars worth of work.
So I call up the service dept again. I tell them I don't want maintenance. Ask them how much it will cost to fix the problem. They tell me $350 to "repair" the throttle body. This is when I explain to him, then that is not part of the 30k regular maintenance. He says, "Yes but I ran it though the computer and it is maintenance." I am currently waiting to hear back from the service manager.
I was thinking about going to pick it up, clear the codes, and let it rev at redline a few times to try and clear the carbon out so I can drive it home. Any one have any ideas?
Also, should this be covered under warranty?
Sorry for the rant. Thanks in advance for help.
