Looking to buy a new Wrangler, trying to decide what model to start with

dimanche 2 août 2015

Hello all! After briefly owning (and learning to weld on) a 92 Wrangler, and driving my dad's 2011 Sahara, I'm looking to get into another Wrangler of my own. The particular combination of features I want (and don't want) seems to be hard to find on dealer lots, so I'm looking to place an order just the way I want it.

Where I'm looking for some input from the jeep community is on which package to start with. This vehicle will be my daily driver (shared responsibility in the summer with my motorcycle), mild offroader, camping vehicle, etc. I don't have any interest in serious offroading or rock crawling or anything right now (famous last words??). I also like to keep things simple... not particularly interested in having all kinds of electronic bells and whistles, and I absolutely need a 6 speed manual. FWIW I'm in NH.

I've configured the following models (all 2 door) on the Jeep site

Sport
Options: A/C, black steel wheel and A/T tire package (appears to include tinted windows as well), 3.73 axles
pros: cheapest route, has nothing that I don't need
cons: will bridgestone dueler revo 2s leave me wanting more from my tires?
$25880

Sport S
Standard: A/C, alloy wheels, A/T tires
Options: tinted windows, 3.73 axles
pros: cheaper than the Willys, alloy wheels
cons: again, will the standard A/T tires leave me wanting more?
$26985

Willys Wheeler
Standard: black rubicon wheels, M/T tires, 3.73 axles, Limited slip rear diff, rock rails, neat stickers
Options: A/C
pros: seems to be just what I want in terms of features and aesthetics
cons: will I hate DDing the M/T tires?
28290

I'd love to just drop the cash on the willys wheeler, as it has everything I see myself wanting within the next 2 years... but if I can save myself some cash I'd love that too.

I'm in a good position financially right now, having paid off my student loans and living at home, so my plan is to just save up whatever down payment I need to get my monthly payments where I want them. I'd like to keep this vehicle for a loooong time.

Any opinions for or against any of the above options? Does it seem like I am just trying to get some affirmation that I should get the WW?
