Replacing Timing Chain on 2.5L - Really have to Drop Oil Pan to change Tensioner?

jeudi 13 août 2015

Hey there!

I'm getting ready to change out the Timing chain and Tensioner on my '89 2.5L with 224K - I recently changed the oil pan gasket to a lovely one-piece unit and since I got it back in there with zero leaks - I'd LOVE to keep it that way :)

I am pretty sure that I'll need to change out the tensioner while I'm in there and it looks like the chiltons manual and the FSM call for the oil pan to be dropped to do it, but I'd love to see any pictures any of you have so that I can understand WHY it needs to be done?

i.e. is it more convenient or is it critically necessary?

Alright - thanks a bunch!:2thumbsup:
