hi I have a 96 xj 4.0 automatic with good battery 12.65vdc, last week I get in to start it after driving 30min, nothing..igniton key turn past where it used to engage the starter and it feels like it takes less resistance to turn, any suggestions as to how to test or if this means ignition switch is bad??
so iv been jumping the starter solenoid terminals with a screwdriver since the key turning pass issue started and it would fire and id be on my way. but now tonigt after driving around an hour and letting it sit for 2hours I get one spark off the starter solenoid with the screwdriver and then I loose all interior power and headlight no power to anything even with jumper car hooked up. I hve no idea whats going on because if I let it sit about ten minutes and try again the fuel pump turns on and I go to spark the starter solenoid terminals and I get one spark and no power again.
also a weird thing is the accessory power for window and headlights comes on where it used to start the and the fuel pump kicks on when key is turned past where it used to start by about an inch forward
any knowledge and help would be so much appreciated my jeep is my only means of transportation to work and back so I must figure this out, thanks all
