Rear door window regulator

vendredi 14 août 2015

Thought I would post my experience with the Liberty window regulators for the back seat windows.

2002 Liberty and I've never had a problem with the regulators until now which apparently puts me in the minority. Like many others I was not using the window when it broke but instead was sitting in a parking lot when I heard a loud pop like somebody had thrown something at my car. I got out, found nothing. Drove a few blocks and down comes the window.

Dug around through Youtube and everywhere else and it was pretty clear the regulator had broken just like so many others report. I decided to replace the entire regulator vs. the lift clamp after market replacement and I found a newer version of the regulator that uses cables vs. that stupid rotary cable Jeep used.

Removing the old unit was a PITA to get it just right and not get tangled or such. Once it was out putting in the new unit took just minutes due to the smaller package without he long rotary cable.

Hints:

Go ahead and remove the bolts off both motor and regulator arm, it gives you a bit more room and you need the bolts for the upgraded part anyway.

Go get a couple of large suction cups from the dollar store to hold the window in place while working. Keep these in the car in case another regulator breaks while on the road so you can just pull up the window and lock it in place with the cups.

Don't pull the electrical plug until you drop the motor, it's easy then.

Put some paint tape on the door lock knob to keep it from getting covered in that black goop.
