I've got a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, fully stock with the 4.0L L6 motor.
A while ago the engine started running hard while in gear at a stop (stop signs and stoplights) and nearly died. Ran the codes and they came back as a misfire on cylinders 2 and 3 and a general misfire. I replaced the spark plugs and the coil pack (for the 2nd time in a 2 years) with no improvement. The 3rd cylinder came back with a faulty fuel injector and the misfires again, so I replaced that and it appears to have stopped running so rich and the strong gas odor while driving subsided. I took it to a mechanic while troubleshooting these issues and he was unable to diagnose anything beyond what I had been able to. I don't think it is a vacuum line leak, but haven't had it tested, so I can't be sure.
Has anyone had similar issues, and if so what resolved them? A friend mentioned the fuel pump being a possibility, but I highly doubt that. I'm surprised that this motor is having these mysterious issues, given its phenomenal track record. Any help is appreciated!!
