I am in the process of replacing my rear output shaft seal on my '03 Rubicon 241 TC. I also have to replace the slinger that the seal rides against due to grooves that had been worn into it.
I was going to use some black RTV to help seal the slinger to the harmonic dampener and also for the seal to retainer interface, but I noticed that the slinger and the seal are coated with a blue material.
Is that material there to provide the seal, or is RTV still a good idea?
As an aside, I also noticed that the retainer was never replaced with the grooved one, so I machined mine to match the pictures I saw. Seems like it should work OK.
