My Recent Trip To Minnesota w/4.56 Gears (1,328 miles)

jeudi 27 août 2015

I left for Minnesota (Park Rapids, MN) on 8/15/2015. Couple weeks prior I had installed 4.56 gears and I am running 30.5" tires. I set the cruise control right around 75 mph which is ~2700 RPMs. Jeep did amazing! Not vibrations, no gear whine no hums NOTHING!!!!

I drove a combined total of 1,328 miles from Illinois to Minnesota. I only had 1, well, 2 problems.

Problem #1: I had the the cruise set at 75 mph, everyone once in a while, the RPMS would jump up ~300 RPMs. Thought it was surging a bit bc of the A/C. Then the RPM surge started getting more frequent. Then at one time, I could not build speed past 60 mph... I drove like this for maybe 1 hr becasue I was in the middle of nowhere in Minnesota when the problems started happening. I was able to do some research while driving and found out many people were havng this exact problem. It was a bad TPS. Found my next exit, about .2 miles from the highway there was an O'Reilly Auto Parts. Got my new TPS (Borg and Warner) and was good to go. No more problems.

Problem #2: While driving had the a/c on, all of sudden g/f goes, "you carpet is really wet under my feet". I said crap, a/c drain is plugged. I will now need to drill this out. Does anyone have a good link that's descriptive on how to do this?

During those 1,328 miles, I filled up 5 times. It only took 2.5 tanks to and from Minnesota. I never let my tank get below 1/4 tank. So I averaged 256 miles to a tank and my average gallons I filled up was 16 gallons. So with that, driving at 75 mph with the RPMs ~2700 RPMs, my AVERAGE MPG was 16 MPG :D. That was with 2 adults, 2 kids, cargo area fully loaded and was carrying a basket on the rear hitch with 2 big coolers and my portable Coleman grill.

Not to bad!!! Again, I love my 4.56 gears!!!!
