So those of you who knew my current saga with my '95 ZJ Laredo i am gonna fix it because paying $900 to fix the misfiring engine that according to my mechanic who performed a Compression Test on 7/15/2015 is 2 bad Valves and a bad #3 Fuel Injector So i am gonna Provide my Own Preferred Oil which i believe is the Best oil in the world (Mobil 1 Full Synthentic) and antifreeze. So that will be $50 less than what i need to pay for if i provide those two.
So yeah $900 is cheaper than getting locked into a Vehicle Payment for the next 1,2,3,4,5,6 years you know. So I just need to put $450 down for them to fix it then i will pay them $100 a month till i pay the total $900 that seems to be the best solution for someone such as myself.
So how much would it cost to bore the cylinders over like a .30 .50 bore over like how much would a machine shop charge to bore over the cylinders on average??? I am wondering how much horsepower and Torque i would gain from a bore over of the cylinders??? I know boring the cylinders over will decrease my MPG as well that is my it must right obviously you are increasing the displacement hence more fuel being burned meaning more power.
I am thinking that would be an easy HP and TQ increase am i right? Would i need to change anything like the OBD1 reprogram?
The Goal for me is to PRIORITY 1 fix the misfiring then get atleast 300hp but Highlonesome in another thread i posted that the Holley EFI System has a capacity of 300hp is that true? can the OBD1 handle dealing with a engine making 300hp on a ZJ?
I know the 95' Corvette's LT1 made 300hp and that was on OBD1 as well so i know OBD1's should be able to handle a 300hp engine.
You guys also mentioned that it was not necessary to remove the engine in order to replace the Valves and Fuel Injectors that does seem like something you can do without removing the engine.
So i paid $60 for a compression test and got those answers from my mechanic i am assuming he just did a basic compression test.
So would they do any grinding/machining of where the valves sat or is just remove and replace i am going to replace all 16 Valves. This $900 also includes all the gaskets that will be new after they get replace the Valves and bad #3 Fuel Injector.
any other MOD PARTS TO INCREASE HP,TQ AND MPG?
I found a 318 making 300hp for $7300 yeah right seems way overpriced i am sure there are others i just googled 318 300hp crate
i could not get a junkyard 318 that is a toss of the dice the cheapest but riskiest way engine replacement option
Anyone paint their Valve Covers i am thinking of painting my Valve Covers Candy Red do i need to stip them of anything and would i need to spray a Primer on them before i paint them? I figure since they will be taken off i might as well paint them.
SIDE NOTE
the most the 5.9 Gasoline Magnums of the 90's generation to early 2000's made was 245hp stock so not much of a difference for a bigger engine (360ci 245hp year 2001 compared to the 1995 318ci 220hp if you really think about it) both made within 6 years of each other of that generation of 5.9 Magnums SHOULD BE MAKING 300HP STOCK BUT THEY AREN'T. My dad has a 2001 Ram 1500 Sport with the 5.9er it does feel much quicker and burns out effortlessly it is stock maybe it is because his Ram 1500 Sport 5.9er has an awesome rear diff its probably like 4.10 or something like that.
