So, while pulling our camper to york, the water pump sized in the 2wd 2000 XJ. The compressor pulley bearing let go, and a small knock started. We replaced the pump and compressor in the campground*, but once started, that knock got louder, quick.
Oil pan drop confirmed bearing material and sludge everywhere.
So, the fine guys at Mercedes Diesel 4x4 offered a 4.0 with similar miles (about 160 to the original 140) pulled from a working TJ that came into their shop for an oil burner conversion. No, they dont have any of those in right now, I checked.
So I am getting the full shebang. Is there anything that needs converted from one to the other? Im using the 2wd AW4, and my computer / harness. And the brand new compressor. Hopefully, the 2-3 of us can accomplish this in an afternoon.
Funds are tight, do motor mounts are about all I was going to swap in. Is it safe to use the water pump from the busted XJ? It was only driven 17 miles in that condition after we dropped a new one in.
*Thank you to the people who kept stopping over offering tools, beer, and encouragement. Seriously, its the best place to break down.
