Carrier bearing replacment dana 35

Okay so I'm not sure yet if it's my carrier bearing but there's a whining sound coming from the left of my diff in my 94 yj. I'm taking it apart tomorrow so I'll know then. But my question how to access it? Am I gonna need special tools? I figured I'd start by taking the axle shaft out but I don't wanna screw it up so I thought I'd ask the experts first. Also should I replace both if I'm doing one? And would water in my diff cause it to go bad? Any help would be awesome
